LST Projects has started on site delivering a £3.2m design-and-build project at Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital in Portsmouth.

Working in partnership with principal designer Equans, LST is creating two new operating theatres within existing space on level E of the hospital.

Following an internal strip out, new walls, ceilings and flooring will be installed along with specialist theatre equipment. An upgraded mechanical and electrical package also forms part of the project, including a new plant room on the roof.

Sean Campbell, Contracts Manager for LST, said: “Working in a live hospital environment will generate several logistical challenges. Level E is on the fifth floor and also home to several other wards and facilities. It is imperative that we minimise disruption, including noise, to ensure the hospital’s other services can continue to operate without any negative impact on staff or patients.

“We have factored in out of hours working where necessary and are in daily contact with the hospital’s management team and Equans. Collaboration will be key to keeping the programme on track, meeting the requirements of all parties, and delivering a high-quality project.’

LST is scheduled to be on site for 39 weeks.
